Not feeling crabby in beautiful Krabi.

💚

Especially after climbing 3.7km to the top of Tab Kak Hang Nak and looking out over the bay and karst peaks. The trail on Khao Ngon Nak, also known as “Dragon Crest Mountain” is a workout for sure but the view is said to be one of the best in Southern Thailand and I wouldn’t argue with that.

🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭 The drive takes about 30 minutes from Ao Nang (main tourist spot in Krabi) to the trailhead. No public transportation options so it’s either scooter or taxi. The park entrance is free, but at the ranger check-in there’s a tip box w/ suggested donation 100 baht ($3). 🛵🛵🛵

After 90 minutes of huffing and puffing we got to the top, had a snack, took some pics and then the skies opened. A wet but cooler descent was nice. 💦💦💦💦

There’s enough rain at this time of year to make the waterfalls in Thailand ideal for swimming and at the base of the trail there’s a nice spot to chill. Felt like a cold therapy pool for the burning quads and glutes. 🍁🍁🧗🏻‍♀️🧗🏻‍♀️

Krabi is a nice coastal town with beaches, Rasta bars, rubber tree forests and jungle. Perfect jumping off point to go to Railay Beach (hippie hideout) and Tonsai (rock-climbing haven). If you’re going to the islands on the Western side of Thailand/Andaman sea, Krabi is where you can find minivans, speed and longtail boats to get you there. ⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰

Having a noodle soup love affair... From Bangkok to Chumphon to Phuket... the Kuay Teaw Nahm comes in a variety of styles: wet or dry, noodle type (wide, vermicelli, flat, egg, instant, etc.) then your meat and bits. Even on a hot humid day, so pretty much every day, it’s my go-to when I’m not sure what to eat. Doctoring it up with some vinegar or hot pepper is encouraged! 🌶 🍜 🍗 🥄

Full Moon Party ✅

Since 1985 Koh Phangan has been throwing wild beach parties on or close to the full moon. A surprisingly organized event with sleeping stations, flaming double dutch and hundreds of neon body paint stations. Thousands of international travelers arrive every month to get wrecked and dance till the sun comes up.

Chasing waterfalls in Southern Laos. Less than an hour from the city of Pakse, the 40 meter high Tad Yuang or “Gneuang” is surrounded by jungle and looks like a dictionary definition of waterfall. During dry season (right now) it’s a good idea to go for a swim, but customs are a bit more modest here so opt for shorts and t-shirt over that sexy bikini. Worth it after a sweaty hike down steep steps in the blazing sun!

If you’ve seen one, you’ve not seen them all. Thailand’s night markets don’t disappoint and are a backpackers saving grace or worst nightmare depending on the day. In Chiang Mai @ploenruedeenight has good live music (not karaoke) and a lot to eat, drink and collect. Crushing extra hard on North Thailand bazaars selling handmade crafts like the coconut lights, Toms look-a-likes and Akha woven hip pouches. My bag has luckily gotten lighter since the purchase of Adam’s “mouch”

Climbing up karsts and repelling down caves in Railay with @adamoam

Met up with Yao and Harry from #therockshoptonsaibay a month ago on our first trip. Second time around visiting the beautiful peninsula, we spent the morning with Yao climbing at Phra Nang beach and chilling with a clouded monitor lizard.

Pics capture the breathtaking views but not so much the 2-day soreness...

South Cebu Philippines. Several miles of dirt roads and colorful towns, past a church nestled in a mountain, we arrive at Montpellar Falls. The first of many waterfalls on this trip and one of the only falls that don’t require a guide or parking/entrance fee. Mostly local kids swimming on a Saturday afternoon ☀️

Honey, I shrunk the kids in a banana tree jungle. Thai sequel.
The Pai land split is a must see and chill out on bamboo hammocks spot.
Came here twice because we loved it so much the first time and needed to replenish on travel snacks. A spread of mouthwatering mango, roselle (hibiscus) juice, tamarind jam, peanuts and banana chips are given to you by the wonderful owners in exchange for a donation. You can explore their organic farm freely and buy what they grow and produce on site. Amazingly they don’t yet charge tourists who come by daily to check out the fault line created by an earthquake in 2008.
Walking inside the canyon you can’t help but wonder what you’d do if the ground started to shake... Support local farmers and definitely leave these lovely people a donation! 🍌

Jungle trekking and visiting hilltribe villages of Northern Thailand’s Chiang Rai province.
Skimmed the surface of jungle survival on this 10k trek with Bamboo Tours. Make a bamboo selfie stick? No prob. Forage for crunchy cicadas? All over it. Cool down in a sandy bottom waterfall? Race you there.  Our guide and founder of Bamboo Tours, Kwan, is a true Tarzan of the jungle and professional at keeping his guests in one piece.
Best tip of the day was finding citronella plants and rubbing it all over to ward off the jungle mozzies. We dug up bamboo shoots, used banana leafs as sweat rags and watched in anticipation as Boy cut down a banana tree for us so we could have banana flower for lunch. I always assumed to get bananas someone had to climb the tree, but no, they just cut that sh*t down.
The treks give travelers a rare opportunity to visit hill tribe villages and sleep there on overnight trips. We stopped for lunch in a Lisu village and had a feast of healthy and definitely “in season” food cooked on an open fire.  Eating meat is not common for hill tribes because animals are seen as spiritual beings they worship. So many great uses of bamboo in SE Asia but a new one for me was the eggs cooked bamboo.
